Following the previous session (September 22-24), which delivered the lowest UK and Ireland market total of 2023, box office staged a recovery at the weekend, rising 31% week-on-week. That number would be higher if the preview takings of the latest Paw Patrol movie were added in. New releases The Creator and Saw Xhelped cinemas achieve stronger numbers.
But despite the success, the market total (£9.03m) is below average, and is 5% behind the equivalent session from 2022, when Smile topped the box office. Next week, Indie Box Office will report on the whole month of September, and also how UK and Ireland box office fared in the first three quarters of 2023, compared to the same period last year.
