Abigail Thorn leads a nuanced revival of Blink at King’s Head Theatre this spring.
This spring, King’s Head Theatre will present a revival of Phil Porter’s play Blink, directed by Simon Paris, known for his award-winning work on The Importance of Being Earnest?. The production reunites Paris with Abigail Thorn — actress, playwright, and creator of Philosophy Tube — who will take the lead role. Thorn has recently appeared in House of the Dragon and Star Wars: The Acolyte.
Sofi Berenger, Executive Producer and CEO at King’s Head Theatre and Metal Rabbit Productions, described the season as a significant moment for the venue, reflecting the types of work they aimed to showcase with the reopening of the theatre.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this new season of work – it feels like a real landmark moment and an indication of the work we wanted to see on our stage when we opened the new building,” Berenger said. “This new season feels like a testament to the bold, brilliant shows and incredible artists we’ve been lucky enough to work with over the past two years.”
Berenger also shared her enthusiasm for producing Blink through Metal Rabbit Productions and working again with Abigail Thorn after their previous collaboration on The Prince in 2022.
She highlighted the support the King’s Head Theatre has received through its Angels of Angel production fund, which has helped both in-house and co-produced projects, as well as encouraging emerging producers from within the company.
Director Simon Paris expressed his personal connection to Blink: “Ever since I first saw Blink, it’s stuck with me. I love the tension the play holds, walking a tightrope between tenderly nice and unsettlingly creepy. It’s a perfect piece to explore the relationship between audience and performer.”
Paris also noted his long-standing desire to work with Abigail Thorn in a directing capacity: “I’ve wanted to work with Abi since she took part in some acting workshops I ran back in 2018.”
The revival adds to the King’s Head Theatre’s upcoming season, which aims to showcase a diverse range of voices and productions as the venue continues to find its footing after reopening.
