A new musical at Southwark Playhouse Borough will be followed by a structured series of post-show Q&As, extending the production into a programme of discussions across its run from 22 May to 4 July 2026.

Redcliffe, written, composed, and performed by Jordan Luke Gage, is set in 18th-century Bristol and based on the story of William Critchard and Richard Arnold. The musical centres on their relationship during a period of persecution, with the narrative focusing on how their meeting forces them to reassess their understanding of identity and society.

The production is staged at Southwark Playhouse Borough and directed by Paul Foster. It features Rebecca Lock as Mother, Daniel Krikler as Richard, and a company drawn from stage and screen credits across UK theatre. Gage, who is known for originating roles in productions including Heathers, & Juliet and Bonnie & Clyde, takes the role of William alongside his writing debut for the stage.

Following selected Tuesday matinee performances, audiences will remain in the theatre for 25-minute post-show sessions. Each week focuses on a different aspect of the production process, beginning with the evolution of the music, followed by design, direction and staging, character development, and the creation of the musical as a whole. A separate session, hosted by Stonewall Housing, focuses on queer storytelling and is scheduled for the final week of the run.

The sessions feature theatre practitioners, podcast hosts and members of the creative team, including musical supervisors, designers, directors and producers, alongside members of the cast. The aim is to examine individual departments within the production rather than provide a general discussion of the show.

The production is supported by MTFestUK, The Other Palace and Bill Kenwright Limited, and continues Southwark Playhouse’s focus on presenting new musical theatre in development-led settings.

Redcliffe runs at Southwark Playhouse Borough, 77–85 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BD, with performances Monday to Saturday.
