Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett stole the spotlight on the red carpet at the European premiere of Ocean’s 8 in London. The trio was joined by Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson and Mindy Kaling for the screening of the heist film at Cineworld in Leicester Square.
The film sees the group of criminals conspire to steal a diamond necklace from the Met Gala. Bullock plays Debbie Ocean, the sister of Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney in Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen.
“Making Ocean’s 8 was too much fun! I hope and trust it will be as much fun to watch as it was to make.
“It’s funny because you don’t worry about what you’re missing until you experience it. Something that all of us were saying is that an all-female starring cast is so rare. “You get maybe one, two or three of you — but to get eight of you that have all got really interesting roles that are all playing off one another is very rare.
“It’s happened to me in the theatre a little bit but it’s never happened to me before in film. So it’s hopefully to be often repeated.” Cate Blanchett.
Ocean’s 8 is an all-female reboot of Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s 2001 crime-caper Ocean’s 11, which was itself a remake of the 1960 original starring Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack.
In the film, Danny Ocean’s estranged sister Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) tries to pull off a heist at New York’s star-studded Met Gala alongside her crew: Amita (Mindy Kaling, Tammy (Sarah Paulson), Lou (Cate Blanchett), Constance (Awkwafina), Nine Ball (Rihanna), and Rose (Helen Bonham Carter)
Director Gary Ross’ film, written by Ross and Olivia Milch and produced by Steven Soderbergh, is to hit cinema screens across the UK on June 22.
