This spring, Brighton’s iconic Royal Pavilion will unveil COLOUR: A Chromatic Promenade, an immersive exhibition celebrating the rich history, emotional impact, and artistic significance of colour. Launching on 21 March 2024 to coincide with International Colour Day, this vibrant showcase runs until 19 October 2025, offering visitors a deep dive into how colour has shaped one of the world’s most visually striking palaces.
Set against the lavish Regency interiors of the Royal Pavilion, the exhibition explores 19th-century colour theory, the painstaking craftsmanship behind its famous hand-painted wallpapers, and the powerful emotions evoked by different hues. Each room has been carefully curated to transport visitors into a world where colour is not just seen but felt—bringing back the awe and excitement experienced by King George IV’s guests in the 1820s.
Alongside the striking room installations, COLOUR features rare historic books, curated artistic interventions, and a dynamic programme of events, including guided colour tours, hands-on workshops, and interactive experiences for all ages. Collaborating with YesColours, a sustainable paint company, the exhibition also highlights the contemporary significance of colour in design and wellbeing.
For those looking to capture a visually captivating moment, the exhibition offers photo opportunities around every corner, making it a must-visit for art lovers, history enthusiasts, and social media creatives alike.
Tickets and full event listings will be released on 28 February at 9:00 AM via brightonmuseums.org.uk.
