British true tale achieves very strong hold

Pathe should be pretty delighted with the second-weekend performance of its comedy-drama The Great Escaper, starring Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson. The true tale – about a Second World War veteran attending the 70th-anniversary celebration of the D-Day Landings in Normandy – has declined just 10% at the UK and Ireland box office, with takings of £536,000 from 631 sites for the second session. Total after 10 days is £1.96m.

The Great Escaper also scored very well on weekdays last week, grossing £824,000 for Monday-to-Thursday, well up on the opening weekend, which was £593,000 including previews.
