An intimate new circus show from Ockham’s Razor founders Charlotte Mooney and Alex Harvey, Collaborator explores what it really takes to work with another person.

The show looks at what it really takes to make something with another person. The negotiations. The small frustrations. The trust you build over time. The aerial work makes that more visible and pulpable: lifts and catches depend on absolute belief in the other person, but also on knowing when to adjust, step back or give way.

Working with someone else always sounds like a good idea. Until you’re actually doing it.

That’s the starting point for Collaborator, the new show from Ockham’s Razor, opening at The Place in London this January before touring the UK.

After years of large-scale productions, Collaborator is going deliberately stripped back. It brings the focus to the relationship that started the company in the first place.

Choreographed by Nathan Johnson, with costumes by Tina Bicât, the piece moves between moments of humour, tension and ease.

This will also be the final time Mooney and Harvey perform together as a duo, which gives the show extra weight – a clear, honest look at what their collaboration has been, and what it’s cost, if you like.

You don’t need to be into circus to connect with it. Anyone who’s worked closely with another person, creatively or otherwise, will recognise the dynamics. Ockham’s Razor are also opening up parts of their rehearsal process, inviting audiences and emerging artists to watch the work being made. It’s a rare chance to see collaboration before it’s polished, when ideas are still being tested and adjusted.
