The power couple of Hollywood – Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz – were promoting their latest film together ‘Everybody Knows‘ at the Toronto Film Festival. Ikon London Magazine spoke to Javier Bardem who revealed the secret of a happy marriage.

Penelope’s previous marriage to Tom Cruise might have been unsuccessful, but her personal life today – it seems – is better than ever. Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz put up a happy-together display at the premiere of ‘Everybody Knows’ in Toronto earlier this month. They appear to be happily married eight years in and their fans are delighted about the chance to see the two together on set again in the new flick by the Iranian award-winning director Asghar Faradi.

The Asghar Farhadi’s 8th feature film was shot entirely in Spanish on the Iberian Peninsula. It charts the story of Laura (Penelope Cruz), who lives with her husband and children in Buenos Aires. When they return together to her native village in Spain for a family celebration, an unexpected event changes the course of their lives.

It’s the eights (!) time Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem appear on set together and this time it is a ‘brilliantly executed psychological thriller.’ Bardem plays Laura’s (Cruz) old flame Paco who comes to help when Laura’s child gets kidnapped. With so much drama on the screen, how do they manage to keep their marriage drama-free?

Javier Bardem marriage: real life is more interesting than fiction

Javier Bardem told Ikon London Magazine at the premiere how he finds working together with his wife on set. “I find it very easy,” the actor told us, “in a sense that we play what we are supposed to play and then we go back to our daily life which is way more interesting than any fiction.” Seemingly happy to talk about his relationship, the actor added: “And it is real.”

Bardem wed his Vicky Cristina Barcelona co-star, actress Penelope Cruz, back in July 2010. The couple welcomed their first child together, son Leo Encinas Cruz, in January 2011. Two years later, on July 22, 2013, a 44-year-old Bardem welcomed his second child with Cruz, a daughter named Luna Encinas Cruz, in Madrid, Spain.
