This October, Parkinson’s UK will host a special screening of Life with Emotions, a poignant new documentary that follows acclaimed Welsh sculptor Nick Elphick as he channels his grief for his late father into art. The film offers a powerful meditation on loss, resilience, and the restorative power of creativity.
Based in Llandudno, Nick Elphick is one of Wales’s most respected contemporary sculptors. His diverse career spans collaborations with Damien Hirst, Ryan Gander, and Jean-Paul Gaultier, as well as public commissions including a tribute to HRH Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee and an ongoing large-scale sculpture of Monty Python’s Terry Jones. Elphick’s work has been featured on BBC One’s Extraordinary Portraits and Sky/Discovery’s Salvage Hunters: The Restorers, further cementing his reputation for blending craftsmanship with emotional depth.
Life with Emotions follows Elphick as he creates a sculpture of his father, who lived with Parkinson’s disease, transforming personal loss into a universal story of memory, love, and renewal. Directed by Shafin Basheer of Bangor University, the film reveals how creativity can become a lifeline in the face of profound grief.
For Parkinson’s UK, this film underscores their commitment to supporting those affected by Parkinson’s and highlights the importance of creativity and connection in managing the challenges of the condition.
The screening, held at Parkinson’s UK headquarters in London on Wednesday 16 October, will feature a Q&A with Nick Elphick and director Shafin Basheer. While the event is private, the charity and filmmakers hope the film will inspire wider conversations about the emotional impact of Parkinson’s and the healing power of artistic expression.
Nick Elphick reflects, “This film gave me the chance to channel my emotions into sculpture, creating something meaningful out of grief. Sharing it with others has been both healing and humbling.”
Life with Emotions promises to be a moving tribute not only to a father’s memory but also to the creative spirit’s capacity to confront loss with beauty and hope.
