Love. It’s never simple, especially when you’re still carrying the receipts from your last relationship.
This autumn, Love Quirks: A New Musical makes its long-awaited UK debut at The Other Palace. After a successful Off-Broadway run — and 15 years of development — the show brings its sharp, sometimes painful take on modern relationships to London for a strictly limited run.
Set in a New York apartment and built around four friends in various states of emotional unravel, Love Quirks blends pathos, humour and sexual tension with a score that leans into the awkward, hilarious honesty of love in your 30s. Think Friends, if Ross had better lyrics and nobody pretended to have it together.
The cast features rising TikTok and musical theatre star Lewis Bear Brown as Ryan, a self-aware serial dater with a knack for bad decisions, alongside Clodagh Greene (Connections, The Other Palace), Ayesha Patel (Romeo and Juliet, Belgrade Theatre) and Tom Newland (The Pirates of Penzance, Wilton’s Music Hall). Together, they navigate everything from leftover feelings to missed signals, all underscored by Seth Bisen-Hersh’s bittersweet and often very funny music.
Directed by Offie-nominated Cecilie Fray, with a book by Mark Childers (winner of Best New Book of a Musical at the 2021 BroadwayWorld Awards), the show explores what happens when you stop romanticising your twenties — and start unpacking what’s left behind.
If you’ve ever stayed up too late talking about your ex, dated a housemate, or wondered whether closure is real, Love Quirks might hit a little too close to home — in the best way.
