Max Richter’s award-nominated Hamnet soundtrack comes alive in a new live recording from Southwark Cathedral, now available exclusively on Apple Music Classical.

Apple Music Classical has unveiled Max Richter: Hamnet Live, an EP featuring three world-premiere arrangements from Richter’s critically acclaimed soundtrack for the film Hamnet. Recorded live at Southwark Cathedral in London, the performance brought together a 40-piece orchestra, the Tenebrae choir, and Richter himself on piano, in front of a sold-out audience.

The EP includes See things that others don’t, Of the sky, and Of the undiscovered country, newly arranged by Richter for this unique live performance. Conducted by Hugh Tieppo-Brunt and recorded by Decca Records and Abbey Road Studios, these tracks mark the only live rendition of the score. The recording coincided with the film’s global release, following its US debut in November 2025 and multiple nominations for the Academy Awards, Critics’ Choice, Golden Globe, and BAFTA.

One of the most influential composers of his generation, Richter is known for blending traditional orchestration with electronic elements — a hallmark of the Hamnet score. His work, streamed over three billion times worldwide, explores profound human experiences, and his compositions have been praised for their emotional depth and psychological nuance. Richter co-founded Studio Richter Mahr with visual artist Yulia Mahr, a multimedia studio in Oxfordshire that nurtures emerging and established creative talent.

The choice of Southwark Cathedral for the performance strengthened the Shakespearean connection. Situated just 400 yards from the original Globe Theatre, the cathedral houses the Shakespeare Memorial, a stained-glass window specially lit for the concert, and the ledger stone of Shakespeare’s brother, all located near the orchestra.

Apple Music Classical, launched in March 2023, provides the world’s largest classical music catalog with over six million tracks, fully optimized search for classical works, high-resolution lossless and immersive Spatial Audio, curated playlists, composer biographies, and over 50,000 booklets with liner notes and translations. As Anjali Malhotra, Global Director for Apple Music Classical, says: “Max’s score for Hamnet has rightly been praised for its emotional power. We are delighted to bring these new live arrangements to listeners worldwide. Music’s ability to connect people is central to our platform, and Max’s work exemplifies this beautifully.”

The EP will be available exclusively on Apple Music Classical for three months.
