South London families are invited to explore Sara Dobbs’ immersive paintings and textiles from 15 January, and join a free sculptural insect workshop inspired by the exhibition.

South London families have a rare chance to explore the landscapes beneath our feet — literally — with Sara Dobbs’ solo exhibition Underfoot at the Gerald Moore Gallery, set within Eltham College. Running from 15 January to 14 February 2026, the exhibition brings together paintings and textiles that transform familiar terrains into layered, vibrant compositions.

Dobbs, an American artist now based in London, draws on her background in agriculture to examine land as both a living system and a vessel of memory, labour, and growth. Her works, rendered in saturated, non-naturalistic hues, depict mountains, forests, rivers, and paths — not as fixed places, but as traces of movement, shaped by footsteps and time. At the heart of the show, a large chiffon wall hanging merges translucent blocks of colour with the gallery space, creating a sense of walking through the landscape itself.

For families, the exhibition offers an extra hands-on opportunity: a free Sculptural Insect Workshop on Saturday 24 January, 11am–12:30pm, where participants can create their own insect sculptures from fabric and paper. Bookings can be made via the gallery’s website at www.geraldmooregallery.org.

The Gerald Moore Gallery has long supported emerging artists while connecting with its local community. Founded in 2012 within Eltham College, it provides exhibitions, workshops, and outreach programmes, fostering creativity across South London. Dobbs’ exhibition continues this tradition, offering both an artistic and educational experience for all ages.

The gallery is open Saturdays from 10am to 4pm, with additional visits available by appointment.
