Windsor Ladies Day races moved later because of extreme heat
The first race will now start at 5.15pm, with gates opening at 2.30pm, after an amber weather warning was issued for Windsor
A small but important change for anyone heading to Windsor’s Ladies Day this Saturday: the racing is starting later.
The British Horseracing Authority has moved the first race from 1.50pm to 5.15pm, with the final race now scheduled for 8.15pm, rather than 5.10pm. Gates will open at 2.30pm.
The reason is the heat. A new Met Office amber warning covering Windsor has prompted the BHA to move the afternoon fixture away from the hottest part of the day, in line with its hot weather policy.
The BHA said the decision was made with the safety and wellbeing of horses and people in mind.
So, rather unusually, Windsor’s Ladies Day will stretch well into the evening. The fixture includes its fashion competition and post-racing 1970s-themed entertainment, but the big practical difference for racegoers is the timetable.
Windsor isn’t the only course making changes. The BHA says fixtures in areas affected by extreme heat are being considered individually. Lingfield Park’s Saturday meeting is already scheduled for the evening, while Friday’s fixtures at Yarmouth and Doncaster have been moved earlier.
For Saturday at Windsor, the new timetable is:
Gates: 2.30pm
First race: 5.15pm
Final race: 8.15pm
