Alentejo is on the cusp of an extraordinary cultural evolution with the development of Palheta Estate, a €110 million luxury project near Évora. Designed by acclaimed architect John Pawson, Palheta will encompass a five-star hotel, 35 villas, and 20 cottages on 300 hectares of pristine landscape. Beyond luxurious accommodations, the estate will serve as a cultural hub, featuring an art pavilion, an amphitheatre, and artist studios.
This project, slated for completion in 2028, is poised to rival iconic destinations like Provence and Tuscany. Pawson’s minimalist aesthetic will highlight the estate’s serene environment, blending art and nature seamlessly. Palheta promises to elevate Alentejo’s artistic scene, offering a slower, more thoughtful way of living. With a wellness spa, equestrian centre, and organic farm, this cultural and natural haven will reflect a harmonious integration of luxury and sustainability. Palheta’s creative spirit will foster a dynamic community, with seasonal art exhibitions and performances that draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape.

Recently, Palheta celebrated its grape harvest, showcasing the super premium Alentejo wines that will play a central role in the guest experience. This milestone highlights the estate’s commitment to its rich oenological heritage. Scheduled for construction in 2025, Palheta will usher in a new era of cultural tourism in Portugal. As Évora prepares to become the EU Capital of Culture in 2027, Palheta is set to attract international attention, reinforcing Alentejo’s place on the global cultural map.
Additionally, CGI renders of the project will be released soon, offering a glimpse into this ground-breaking development.
