The National Theatre has unveiled the principal cast for the UK premiere of Here We Are, the final musical by the legendary Stephen Sondheim, with a book by Tony Award-nominee David Ives (Venus in Fur). Following its world premiere in New York last year, this eagerly awaited production will debut at the Lyttelton Theatre from 23 April to 28 June 2025, with a press performance on Thursday 8 May.

Joining the cast are Jane Krakowski (30 Rock), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), and Martha Plimpton (Sweat), making their National Theatre debuts. Also new to the production are Chumisa Dornford-May (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812), Richard Fleeshman (Company), Harry Hadden-Paton (Downton Abbey), Cameron Johnson (Guys & Dolls), and Paulo Szot (South Pacific). Returning to their acclaimed roles from the New York premiere are Tracie Bennett (Follies) and Denis O’Hare (Tartuffe), alongside Rory Kinnear (No Time to Die), who joins the London cast.

Directed by two-time Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello (Wicked, Assassins), Here We Are draws inspiration from two iconic films by Luis Buñuel, weaving a surreal and darkly comedic narrative. Set in a celebrated restaurant where things quickly spiral into chaos for a group of diners, the musical explores the absurdity of human behaviour with wit and innovation.

Mantello will helm a creative team that includes set and costume designer David Zinn, choreographer Sam Pinkleton, lighting designer Natasha Katz, and sound designer Tom Gibbons. Orchestrations are by Jonathan Tunick, with additional arrangements by Alexander Gemignani and conducting by Nigel Lilley.

Playing in the Lyttelton theatre from 23 April to 28 June 2025.
