William Hunt Knows How to Make You Smell Better Looking

The Savile Row tailor for the rich and famous, William Hunt was lauded this week for the launch of his inaugural cologne ‘Oud de Perfume’ that ‘promises’ to make you ‘smell better looking’. The launch party was attended by celebrities including Nicky Clarke, Oliver Proudlock, celebrity photographer Joe Alvarez, models Tamara Orlova-Alvarez and Emma Louise Connolly, actor Craig McGinlay, singers Larissa Eddie and Dan Olsen among others as the perfume received a great reception amongst all present.

The perfumer in chief, Jerome Di Marino, gave us a glimpse of the intricate process of choosing the perfect recipe. He commented: “The opening notes of the perfume reflect the bright side of our mysterious protagonist, the archetypal customer of one of the best tailors William Hunt. We see him on his night out, sipping gin and tonic in one of the private Gentlemen’s Clubs. The perfume opens to us with citrus, juniper berry and orris. But he also has a darker side; the fragrance seduces us with rich and woody oud, quite prevalent black pepper and tonka beans.”

Although packaged as men’s cologne, the fragrance would perfectly suit women who are after a stronger more luxurious scents. Made of one of the most expensive fragrances – oud and orris, the perfume is rich and powerful.

William Hunt Cologne ‘Oud de Perfume’ Ingredients

Speaking of the ingredients: the oud oil is distilled from agarwood and fetches high prices depending on the oil’s purity. It is produced by the agarwood tree when it gets infected with a certain mould variety (Phialophora parasitic). It reacts by producing a precious, dark and fragrant resin, which is the perfume ingredient oud. Only 2 percent of agar trees produce oud, which makes it incredibly precious.

Orris, another luxurious ingredient used in the perfume, is sometimes called ‘liquid gold’ due to it’s value – 1,5 times the price of gold. One needs one TON of iris plant bulbs that have been aged 2 to 5 years to produce 2 kilos (4.4 pounds) of essential oil.

The fragrance is, without doubt, luxurious and if – for whatever reason – it won’t make you smell better looking, will at least make you look more like William Hunt customer – masculine and with a good taste.
