New production images from Ava Pickett’s award-winning Tudor drama arrive as the sold-out Almeida hit prepares for its West End transfer and a forthcoming BBC television adaptation.

New images have been released for 1536 as the production prepares for its West End run. Following a sold-out engagement at the Almeida Theatre, the play will transfer to the Ambassadors Theatre from 2 May to 1 August 2026.

Written by Ava Pickett, 1536 is set in Tudor England during the fallout from the arrest of Anne Boleyn. The story follows three women in rural Essex as news from court begins to affect their lives.

Liv Hill, Siena Kelly and Tanya Reynolds reprise their roles from the original production. They are joined by Oliver Johnstone and George Kemp. Direction is by Lyndsey Turner.

The play has received several awards and nominations, including the 2024 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and a nomination for Best New Play at the 2026 Olivier Awards. Pickett has also been recognised as Most Promising Playwright at the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards.

A television adaptation of 1536 has been commissioned by the BBC and will be produced by Drama Republic. Casting and release details for the television series have not yet been announced.
