My Son’s A Queer, (But What Can You Do?) will return to the West End for a final run at the Apollo Theatre, playing 23 performances only from 16 September to 3 October 2026.
Written and performed by Rob Madge and directed by Luke Sheppard, the show charts Madge’s childhood attempts to stage elaborate Disney-inspired performances at home, turning living rooms into makeshift theatres and family members into unwilling collaborators. What begins as domestic play becomes a broader portrait of imagination, identity and the push to be seen on one’s own terms.
The production first premiered at the Turbine Theatre in 2021 before transferring to the Edinburgh Festival, touring the UK, and later running twice in the West End at the Garrick and Ambassador’s theatres. It also played a Broadway season in New York, marking a rare transatlantic journey for a solo autobiographical stage work of this kind.

This final West End engagement follows that trajectory, bringing the show back to London for a limited return before it is retired. Producer Paul Taylor-Mills has described the Apollo run as a closing chapter for a piece that began as a lockdown-era idea and grew into an award-winning production with a sustained life across multiple venues.
The show itself draws on Madge’s childhood memories of staging improvised Disney parades at home, with family members cast into roles ranging from stage crew to reluctant performers. The work sits between theatre, storytelling and memoir, moving through reconstructed childhood scenes with a focus on humour, performance and family dynamics.
Directed by Luke Sheppard, whose work includes & Juliet, Starlight Express and Just For One Day, the production has received multiple awards including the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Off-West End Production and an Olivier nomination for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play.
