The stars dazzled at an incredibly busy and star-studded red carpet of Cannes Film Festival as Lynne Ramsay presented her latest film Die, My Love. The American psychological drama is based on the 2017 novel by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz, the film centres around a new mother who develops postpartum depression and enters psychosis. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, with Lawrence also producing. The film premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 17th.

The movie follows Grace (Jennifer Lawrence), a big-city author, and her husband Jackson (Robert Pattinson) as they move to a remote rural area to be close to the family of Jackson’s deceased uncle. Their marriage and Grace’s mental health deteriorate as she struggles with postpartum depression and psychosis.

During the conference, Jennifer Lawrence admitted having been four months pregnant while playing this role, “I was full of good hormones, and it helped me to stay in a good place.” Both stars admitted that having children has re-focused them. Pattinson admitted, to Lawrence’s surprise, that he felt more energised to create, and it fuelled him.

Critics have mixed reactions to the film. Some praise it for its unflinching portrayal of Grace’s mental breakdown and Jennifer Lawrence’s performance, describing it as a harrowing but beautiful meditation on madness and depression. Others find the film heavy-handed and unoriginal, noting that the storyline of a couple’s disintegration due to one partner’s mental health issues is not particularly fresh.
The film received a nine-minute standing ovation at its premiere at Cannes, indicating a strong initial reception from festival-goers.
