Following on from 1987’s Law of Desire and 2003’s Bad Education, Pedro Almodóvar‘s latest feature film is the third volume and natural continuation of a trilogy that began thirty years ago now, offering up a masculine vision of desire and film-making.
After an unforgettable performance in Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1990), Antonio Banderas plays Salvador Mallo, a director reunited with people from his past, thus triggering memories of his earliest emotional upheavals, from childhood experiences to the excitement of his glory days.
This trip down memory lane is partially inspired by real-life elements: The music that formed the backdrop to Pedro Almodóvar’s childhood, his own works of art, a replica of his apartment, his hairstyle, his clothing, and accessories. Dolor y Gloria is a fleeting snapshot of a portrait of the filmmaker, as fictional as it is true to life.
Penélope Cruz made a glamorous arrival at the premiere for her film Pain And Glory at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday in her white Chanel gown with blue lace. ‘Pain and Glory’ marks the sixth time that Penélope has worked with director Pedro Almodóvar, who previously won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1999 for All About My Mother.
Penélope stars opposite Antonio Banderas in the Spanish drama Pain And Glory, which tells the tale of a director in decline as he reflects on big moments and decisions in his life.
Antonio Banderas, 58, plays the lead role and the red carpet also saw the actor make an appearance with his banker girlfriend Nicole Kimpel, 38. The Zorro star has been dating Nicole for four years after he split up with his then-wife of 19 years Melanie Griffith, 61.
The premiere attracted other stars, mainly sponsored by Chopard to attend. stunning Amber Heard was wearing a striking wine-red wrap dress with a very revealing split, paired with same-coloured over-the-knee boots. She wore ruby and diamond jewellery by Chopard.
Among other Chopard clotheshorses on the red carpet were Bella Hadid and Anya Rubik. They were sporting statement diamond jewellery with Hadid’s earrings and bracelet also including pigeon blood rubies.
