The young and glamorous descended upon London’s newest and most hotly anticipated tapas bar, Salvador and Amanda.
Serving up a tantalising feast of Balearic food, music, art and culture, Bloomsbury’s new restaurant indulged guests with some samples of their wine collection, as well as a steady flow of sangria and chilled cervezas.
The evening’s music was delivered by DJ Tom Crane, though revellers were forced to stifle their inner dancer as the overcrowded room allowed only for the occasional sway (therefore inevitably bumping into the tapas plates that circulated on the ground floor).
The tapas itself was a truly indulgent Spanish treat. Tastes of all types were catered for, with generous offerings of meats, seafood and cheeses – including blue cheese for those willing to risk stinky breath in such confined space! Sadly the bountiful supply was short-lived, and after only a couple of hours they’d been cleaned out – alcohol and swaying doesn’t half build up an appetite!
Perhaps launch parties aren’t the best barometer for a restaurant’s real ambiance or clientele, but if it was any indication at all, you can expect all walks of life. From young to old, from the glamorous to the… slightly less so, and even from the short to the tall, they were all there to share in the lavish and stress-free atmosphere of Salvador and Amanda. Though a word of advice to the very tall: do look out for the overhead fans, as one woman nearly lost the top of her head as she walked underneath one.
Seriously though, would I recommend it? Absolutely. As the latest venture of the inimitable Eric Yu, whose impressive portfolio includes Opium, Jerusalem, Punk and The Social, you know you can expect a fantastic evening in true fiesta fashion. What’s more, if you go between Thursday and Saturday, you’ll be treated to music by some of Europe’s leading DJs, from classic tracks to the latest house music. Average cost per meal is £20 per head excluding drinks. What more could you want!
