Prepare to embark on an evocative journey through first love and the complexities of nostalgia with the world premiere of Small Town Boys, a stirring new play by Tim McArthur. Set against the backdrop of Fire Island—a vibrant hub of queer culture—this heartfelt production explores the intertwining lives of two men who unwittingly shared a significant chapter in their youth.

In Small Town Boys, we meet Tom (Nathan Taylor) and Drew (Stuart Simons), two middle-aged gay men who cross paths during a serendipitous encounter on Fire Island. As they reminisce about their teenage years in Middlesborough, they uncover a surprising twist: they both dated the same boy, Jason (Dominic Charman), during their formative years. Through a series of poignant flashbacks, the narrative reveals the struggles and joys of young love, delving into themes of identity, heartbreak, and the longing for acceptance.

Written and directed by Tim McArthur, Small Town Boys invites audiences to reflect on the impact of first relationships and the memories that linger long after. McArthur’s direction is complemented by the expressive performances of Taylor, Simons, and Charman, who breathe life into their characters with a touching authenticity that resonates deeply.

The play is beautifully supported by Jessie Huckin’s thoughtful set design, which transports the audience from the lively beaches of Fire Island to the familiar pubs of their North Yorkshire hometown. This production promises not only to entertain but to evoke a sense of shared experience and connection among its viewers.
