Glitter, puppets and a royal wedding cake – the absurd festive romcom that makes Hallmark look tame.

If Hallmark romcoms make you wince but you secretly love their melodrama, The Fit Prince (Who Gets Switched On in the Square in the Frosty Castle the Night Before Insert Public Holiday Here) fixes everything — with glitter, puppets, and an absurdly elaborate plot.

After dazzling at the Edinburgh Fringe — Vogue named it a “Top 10 Standout Act”, and the New York Times gave it a Critics’ Pick — the show lands at King’s Head Theatre, Islington, for a festive run.

Linus Karp and Joseph Martin, who married live on stage at the Fringe, star in this gleeful queer parody. The kingdom of Swedonia is in crisis: the Prince is unmarried, the throne is at risk, and a hapless New York baker is roped in to make the royal wedding cake. Add a puppet sidekick, a cavalcade of digital cameos including Tove Lo, Sebastian Croft and Malte Gårdinger, and a storyline that gleefully defies sense — and you have a festive romp unlike any other.

Golden Globe–nominated Leland’s original music punctuates the chaos, while Karp and Martin’s infectious chemistry keeps the heart intact. It’s camp, chaotic, and shamelessly silly, but quietly tender in its celebration of queer love and outrageous fun.

The result is a holiday-season treat that dares to be outrageous, absurd, and joyous — exactly what the festive calendar needs this year.
