A tiny projected chef is coming to a dining room behind Buckingham Palace this summer, where he will appear to chop, cook and travel through a miniature world before the real food arrives at the table.

Le Petit Chef will run at Kona, the restaurant at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites & Residences, from 5 June 2026, every Friday to Sunday. The two-hour dinner uses projection mapping to tell the story, with the hotel’s kitchen serving a five-course menu alongside it.

The chef is only 58 millimetres tall. He appears across the table, cooking his way through the scenes before the Taj 51 culinary team takes over with the corresponding dishes.

The menu includes dishes such as goat’s cheese, onion and mushroom quiche, thyme chicken roulade and French duck leg confit, followed by an interactive chocolate sphere. There are several menu options, including a Juniors Menu. Each sitting lasts approximately two hours, with sittings at 5.30pm and 8.30pm.

The projection is created by Belgian artist collective Skullmapping. Co-founders Filip Sterckx and Antoon Verbeeck have been developing Le Petit Chef since 2015, using projection mapping to bring the tiny animated chef into the dining room and make him appear to cook alongside the meal.

Taj 51 Buckingham Gate is in Westminster, a short walk from Buckingham Palace and St James’s Park and close to the West End, so this could easily be slotted into an evening in central London. The London run is presented in partnership with 2Spicy Entertainment GmbH, the team behind Le Petit Chef’s international shows.

Advance reservations are essential. Menu options, timings and tickets are available via the Taj 51 Buckingham Gate and Le Petit Chef websites.
