75th Berlinale: Opening Gala and Opening Film Will be Shown in Seven Cities Across Germany

On February 13, the 75th Berlin International Film Festival will kick off at the Berlinale Palast. The world premiere of Tom Tykwer’s latest feature film The Light will open the festival following the stage presentation. 

During the festive opening gala, the International Jury will be introduced and the Honorary Golden Bear will be awarded. This year, the award goes to the celebrated Scottish actor Tilda Swinton, who will be honoured for her life time achievement.

The gala will be hosted by the renown Luxembourg actor, presenter, director and producer Désirée Nosbusch.

In cooperation with X Verleih, the Berlinale is delighted to be able to present a live transmission of the opening gala and the opening film in seven cities across Germany for the 75th anniversary.

“On the occasion of the 75th Berlinale, it’s fantastic to be able to share the festival with audiences beyond the borders of Berlin,” says Berlinale Director Tricia Tuttle.

The opening event begins on February 13 at 7 pm at the Berlinale Palast and will be transmitted in the following cinemas:

Tickets and further information will be available directly from the participating cinemas from January 21.

The stage presentation at the opening will be broadcast on television on the same evening by the Berlinale’s two media partners, Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) and ZDF/3sat. It will also be shown live on Berlinale.de and the festival’s YouTube channel.
